Pictures to tide you over...

We know that it has been so long since we last posted-however, we have been busy settling in. Nathaniel went back to work yesterday, so we are adjusting not having Poppie here to help out. We miss him but are doing well together.

We have lots of pictures to post of Jack's birthday, as well as pictures of visitors and our first week together as a family. However, it may take a bit. We did want to give you something to tide you over until these are posted!

One week old

Hard to believe our baby is already a week old! So much has happened already. Part of his umbilical cord fell off yesterday, although it looks like it will be a two step process, since he still has a little stump covering his belly button. We can't wait to see it. In addition, we have discovered that Jack LOVES sleeping on his right side. On several occasions, when he is placed on his back, he turns onto his right side. It is hilarious to watch-who knew a little guy could have so much strength. We just love this little guy so much! He is the best entertainment ever.

"He's looking excellent"

Those are the words of our midwife after our NST (non-stress test)  We were sent home to rest and relax.  They'd like us to return tomorrow by 11 am and we'll see how Liz is progressing.  If her labor has begun, then they won't have to intervene.  If it hasn't, then they'll look into cervix ripening or pitocin.  We're hoping that she's laboring along at that point :)  As of now, a few small contractions.  The midwife told us both to take some Tylenol PM to get a good night's rest...we'll need it (the Tylenol and a good night's rest.)

Cleared for arrival

HJ has been holding in a circling pattern, awaiting clearance for arrival.  Well, today at about 1pm Liz and I were picking up some groceries and her water broke.  Just a slow trickle.  No contractions.  We've been that way for about 8 hrs.  Liz has been baking cookies for the hospital staff, we went out to dinner, and we're just "preparing."  Our midwives want us to go in around 10 pm for a non-stress test.  If HJ and Momma are okay, we can head home for the early stages of labor.  Pretty sure the little fella will be born within the next 36 hrs.  We'll let you know.  

37 + Week Check-Up

Today we had our big one-on-one check-up before our little guy makes his arrival. Everything is looking good-HJ's heart rate is nice and strong, and he is in fact head down, just like we had thought. I am not dilated yet, which is completely normal right now. However, I must say, there was a little part of me that was hoping I would magically be 5 cm dilated, or even better, 7 cm (which is pretty much right before baby is ready to pop out). How great would that be if all that hard work was done, and I did not even realize it?

But, I can't complain, as I am still feeling really good. I may be a little slower, but I am still sleeping well through the night and I really don't have any swelling. So, if more time is what HJ needs, then we are OK with that. Besides, he is a lot easier to take care of inside my belly, than outside!

We are just so eager to meet this little guy that we already love so much!!!

HJ may be a Minnesotan by birth, but . . .

Baby Fat Creases

This was the daily reading from The Pregnancy Journal for August 25th:

 "Your baby's limbs are beginning to dimple at the elbows and knees, and creases are forming around the wrists and neck as fat deposit continues." 

We love baby fat creases!
